How long does one Testogel pump last?

How long your Testogel lasts depends on the number of pumps prescribed each day.

Prescribed useTestosterone per dayApproximate duration
1 pump daily20.25 mg/dayMinimum 60 days
2 pumps daily40.5 mg/dayMinimum 30 days
3 pumps daily60.75 mg/dayMinimum 20 days
4 pumps daily81 mg/dayMinimum 15 days

The usual starting dose is often 2 pumps daily, equal to 40.5 mg testosterone per day, adjusted by the clinician according to testosterone levels and clinical response. The licensed dose range is from 1 pump daily to 4 pumps daily.

How Testogel works

Testogel is applied to the skin. Testosterone is absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream.

The aim is to restore testosterone levels to an appropriate physiological range in men with confirmed testosterone deficiency.

Your clinician will use your symptoms, blood results and safety markers to decide whether treatment is suitable, what dose should be prescribed, and whether the dose needs adjusting over time.

Testogel is not intended for bodybuilding, sports performance enhancement or general wellness use.

How to apply Testogel

Your clinician will confirm your exact dose and application instructions.

General application guidance:

  1. Apply the prescribed number of pumps once daily.
  2. Apply to clean, dry, healthy skin.
  3. Testogel is usually applied to the shoulders and upper arms.
  4. Rub in gently and allow the gel to dry before dressing.
  5. Wash your hands with soap and water after application.
  6. Avoid showering, bathing or swimming shortly after applying unless advised otherwise.
  7. Keep the application area covered once dry to reduce the risk of transfer.

Do not increase or reduce your dose unless your clinician tells you to.

Avoid transfer to others

Testosterone gel can transfer to another person through close skin contact.

To reduce this risk:

  • Wash your hands after applying
  • Allow the gel to dry before dressing
  • Cover the application area with clothing
  • Avoid skin-to-skin contact with the application area
  • Take extra care around women, children and pregnant partners
  • Wash the application area before close contact if needed

Contact your clinician if another person is accidentally exposed to the gel.

Why blood testing is required

Testosterone treatment should only be used when clinically appropriate. Symptoms alone are not enough.

Before Testogel can be prescribed, your clinician will need to review blood test results. These may include:

  • Total testosterone
  • Free testosterone or calculated free testosterone
  • SHBG
  • LH and FSH
  • Prolactin
  • Oestradiol
  • Full blood count and haematocrit
  • Liver function
  • Lipids
  • HbA1c or glucose
  • PSA, where clinically appropriate

Follow-up blood testing may also be required after starting treatment or changing dose. This helps check whether testosterone levels are responding appropriately and whether treatment remains safe.

Testogel or bespoke testosterone cream?

Remivida Select offers both licensed and bespoke options, depending on your clinical needs.

Some men may be best suited to a licensed option such as Testogel. Others may require a bespoke compounded cream where a different strength, cream base or dosing approach is clinically appropriate.

Your clinician will decide which option is most suitable based on your blood results, symptoms and medical history.

Who may be suitable?

  • Reduced morning erections
  • Fatigue
  • Low motivation
  • Low mood
  • Reduced muscle strength
  • Increased body fat

  • Raised PSA or prostate symptoms
  • High haematocrit
  • Severe untreated sleep apnoea
  • Significant heart, liver or kidney disease
  • Fertility concerns or plans to conceive

Testosterone treatment can cause side effects, including:

  • Acne or oily skin
  • Mood changes or irritability
  • Fluid retention
  • Breast tenderness
